A breakdown of pros and cons for Merc/SM

Honestly, is Mercenary that far off in terms of damage vs SM's in PvE? I feel like the difference isn't too substantial; whereas in PvP, Mercs almost completely outshine SM in every way.

The only reason why I went SM is to be viable in both areas of the game, but the more I read, the more it doesn't seem like Mercs are that bad in PvE. Having regrets ;/

Choose Paladin if you want balanced PVP and PVE. SM can outshine a Merc in pvp because of the slight difference of attack speed. Mercenary has super armor which is gay to the end. I say that they are balanced in PVP.

Everything you wrote seems reasonable, but in my opinion the way the game is is all about how skilled you are in the game

At the moment the only good SM "entry skills," Deep Straight (Forward Thrust), Triple Slash, and maybe Eclipse, all get interrupted by Crisis Howl. Heavy Slash too. So it's kind of hard just to begin a combo.

The thread is kinda old... but anyways, mercs are easier to do well in PvP. Possibly over powered due to their skills that can eat half of your hp.

Personally, if you're skilled and know how to maintain a good combo lock, go for SM. If you intend to use one skill at a time that deals a huge amount of damage, go merc.
