Default What are SM good for?

^Title. I have a SM, but I am really unsure about its usefulness (in PvE). What are the best classes, in your opinion, in PvE?

Thanks

Well, I think they are average in PvE. Right now Priests and SharpShooters are the best in my opinion. I always hope for them to join my party in the harder dungeons like the nests :P

Priest=awesome support

SharpShooter= Rain of Arrow OHKO on mini bosses + great dps!

I still think mercenaries are better for PvE as well as PvP because they have a bunch of AoE skills. However, they deal great one target damage on one target.

My main is a Swordsman so I'll apologize first off if it seems bias. I personally love playing on my Swordsman. He's sort of like the jack of all trades kind of class and I'll explain why. We can maintain and string very long combos. A good portion of our strong attacks have invisibility frames. Our highest DPS skill has a cool down of 9 seconds. We have pretty high crowd control with Cyclone Slash. One of our best skills Eclipse, has an amazing Super-Armor-breaking effect. Defensive wise, we have Dash, Counter Slash, Counter Wave, Parry Stance and two Aerial evades. Lastly, we have Luring Slice which can almost be infinitely cycled. It increases the amount of damage done on the mob by X% for 20 seconds, the cool down being 22 seconds. The only downside is building a Magic Swordsman in preparation for a Moon Lord; it can be rather expensive. Overall, I think it's a pretty balanced class. Not too strong, not too weak. Just right.

Best thing you can do is use luring slice as often as possible to buff the damage of your party on a boss. Other than that you can help by doing damage (though SMs have low damage in comparison with other classes).

Best pve classes vary, are you going solo, or partying, damage, or survival? Each class has their strengths and weaknesses. But I'd have to say priests are the best for partying in nests (the really hard dungeons) because of buffs and heals.

Hello, thanks for replying

My r/l friend is already a Priest, so I don't feel like going after the same class.

I mainly like to solo or duo (with my friend), and go for a mix of damage and survival. I don't want to take too long ( as in 30 min- 1 hour), but I don't want to die too quickly and waste all my revives on a dungeon.

I guess I'll stick to SM (magic hybrid) , as even though the damage isn't the highest, it seems like a good class for a mix of both offense and defense. I just have a question- what are the basic skills each SM needs to have? Can someone post some helpful links for SP distribution? Also, what equips should I have for a magic hybrid SM up to 32?

Once again, thanks for replying and helping me to decide

Definitely need to have Moonlight Splitter, Cyclone Slash, Crescent Cleave, Half moon Slash, Eclipse and Luring Slice. The optional skills are Forward Thrust, Hacking Stance and Frenzied Charge. You will eventually have Moonlight Splitter at Lv 9 for the EX version when we become Moon Lord. You can keep Cyclone Slash at Lv 6, that's when the cyclone becomes larger in size but this isn't too high on priority. You can keep it for the lowest ranks as prerequisites for other skills. Crescent Cleave you can leave at Lv 5 for 5 beams instead of 3. Half moon Slash you will eventually put to Lv 3, it boasts very high damage. Eclipse is dependent on you. I left it at 1, it didn't feel it was worth the extra SP getting an additional 15% in Super Armor breaking power. For now, I'm not sure how to rank up Luring Slice. It's a great skill in solo or parties. I'll post a link for a skill build in a moment.

Here we go :D
Swordsman 0/0/0 - Skill Calculator - Dragon Nest Armory

You can swap out Frenzied Charge for Parry Stance if you'd like. Up to you.

Just get everything and only upgrade the ones that are a prereq for the next skill. Ah and don't get soccer kick and dash kick. Useless in my opinion.

Hmm, and if you're going magic, I'd recommend getting everything up until frenzied charge on the physical branch and get halfmoon slash on the other branch. You could get parry stance instead of frenzied but I definitely find frenzied to be a nice damage dealer.

If you want I could go to dnarmory and put my skill build on it and link it. I'm pretty sure it's pretty standard tho my build. Cept I don't have parry stance.
